AXE FX III / FM9 / FM3 Presets
The Axe FX III is a recent purchase of mine. I’m loving it and can see myself going back to Fractal in the near future for live and studio use. I’m really happy with the rhythm presets I’ve put together. They feel raw and organic. More so than any guitar tone I’ve used in a long time. It has the tell tale tight low end and articulation that I strive for in a guitar tone…but the tone breaks up when really hitting hard. I feel like I’m playing through an amp for the first time in a long time and dare I say, it sounds like a guitar for a change haha.
Presets included (so far)…
Rhythm patch #1 FAS Modern II & Mesa V in parallel. Thick, low mid heavy tone.
Rhythm patch #2 FAS Modern II & Britmod in parallel. A little more scooped and aggressive. Can sit in the mix slightly better.
2 x custom IRs. My go to 4x12 IR i’ve used since Altered State and a new 4x12 IR I’ve started using which arguably makes up the bulk of the tone.
Denoiser included which helps remove unwanted EMI and PC noise. Especially when using single/split coils.
Altered State style soft lead tone
Clean bridge tone
Clean neck tone
Bass Distortion
Bass Clean
EMI/PC DE-NOISER
HELPS REMOVE UNWANTED EMI/COMPUTER NOISE
The before/after example below uses the rhythm preset using a split coil pickup position while playing right next to the PC to exaggerate the noise issue which a lot of guitar players have.
The “before” example has a standard gate setup enabled. While the “after” example uses the denoising method. It’s not perfect but it really does help to clean up the sound without altering the tone or feel too much. It works especially well live! Some parameters will need to be altered depending on the context of what’s being played, pickup output and how hard you hit the strings.
The more you can fix the noise issue at source the better - but this helps for any left over noise! The blocks used can be incorporated into your own presets also.
Created using Axe FX III Firmware v29
Compatible with Fractal Axe FX III & FM9
FM3 & FM9 users please note.
Bass presets not compatible with FM3
Separate rhythm presets created for FM3/FM9 to ensure working denoiser.
Clean and lead presets are untested with the FM3. I use multiple delays & reverbs so they won’t be fully compatible.
The FM3 rhythm preset uses only one amp due to it’s limitations.
The denoiser for the FM3 & FM9 utilises different blocks to the main Axe FX III preset. The results are very similar and probably 90-95% in likeness to the main Axe FX III preset.
